Going through my rebuild kit, there is a package of stainless steel inserts.
They look to be two connected plates with a large hole. They say
'break apart here' or something like that.
What are these for? They seem to have clips on the sides to hold onto
something, but I don't understand their place.
This is for rebuilding an 80-85 engine (#207) for my 81.
Those are heat-riser block-off inserts for the intake manifold gaskets. I would block off the gaskets, as you have an electric choke on your carburetor.
I blocked off my exhaust crossover and don't recommend it. Also did it the correct way. The holes in the intake, under carb are plugged along with the gaskets block out.
This has little to do with choke. It heats the fuel mix when cold to make the cold engine run better. Mine runs like sheat until partially warmed up. I now have a manual choke.
