Default stroker cam clearance

checked my rod to cam lobe clearance on my 383 and had a little over 52 thousand clearance on cylinders 1,2,5 and 6 is that the cylinders to check? I think I read that somewhere. seems like enough clearance to me. anyone know for sure?

You're probably OK. Usually you end up slightly grinding the edges of rod bolts on cam side to make sure it all clears. You might want to add a little clearance just incase you change cams later.

If your cam to rod clearance is correct for 1 & 2 it is the same for all. That is if your not going to change the cam degree later with an adjustable timing chain

Default measure

I put 2 long feeler gauges together (aka hacksaw blades) they are 26 thousand each for a total of 52. I put a good curve in them and had a friend turn the motor slowly while I kept it in line with the rod cap and on the lobe. the motor turned over with the two blades between the lobe and the rod cap, so I have at least 52 thousand clearance. maybe not the best way but it worked. there is not much room for your hands and a feeler gauge in there.

Did it similiar to this. I was concerned less about the measurement but more concerned about the clearance. When I ordered the rotating assembly from the machine shop they ground the rod bolts that were known to possibly hit. All I had to do was ensure there was adequate clearance when putting it together.

Trick I read was to use masking tape to build up on the lobe the clearence need/desired so when you rotate the eng the rod will hit the tapped lobe(s) if there is not enough clearence.
