Is this normal? I have a 180 themostat...the output from the radiator is running about 150 degrees (using digital sensor thermometer)...but at the top where the coolant is coming from the the engine the temperature is between 200 and 204...that seems way too hot to me for a 180 thermostat. The needle is registering hotter than I have seen it previously.
The only thing I have done to it is replaceed the edelbrock performer manifold with the stock manifold and put R43 plugs in where I had R45.
However, it has been VERY hot and humid here lately...would it make that big a difference?
Oh ya, I did change out the fan clutch to make sure it wasnt that.
202-204 really isn't all that hot especially in the Summer. I'm running NO thermostat and I hit 180degrees on the interstate and 200-205 in traffic w/ the electric fan on.
The Termostat does NOT control the high temp. of engine. It only controls the low temp. It will stay closed untill the engine reaches 180 degrees and then it will open so the coolant flows thru the system, but this will not prevent it from getting hotter than 180.
By the way 200/205 is not a problem at all.
