My driver's side door is stuck and won't open on my '75. The good news is that I can see down between the door panel and the door to the upper mechanisms. I have played with it some but with the unbearable heat have not spent too much time working on it.
Is it possible for me to open the door by using a screwdriver or other tool? I don't want to remove the seat and take the door panel off, if I can avoid it.
Use a slim-jim between the glass and the door panel, try to pull up on the rod that comes off the outer door handle. This rod, if not fully released, will prevent the door from un-locking....G/L
This thread helped me when I had the same problem: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1015138
Once I got the mechanism freed up, I sprayed a lot of silicone lubricant under the door handle and between the window and door. This helped to re-lubricate things enough so that the key now works perfectly.

I recently had the same problem with my 68 drivers side door. After being locked from the inside ****, it would not open. With the door locked, the drivers side interior vinyl panel restricted access to the door mechanism. I decided to switch my plan of attack and so I decided to remove, the door panel from the passenger's side. This was to give me a clear look at the passenger's side lock. With the panel off of the passengers door and the door open, I practiced opening the passengers door lock with a shim. After a lot of training, I then went and used the shim on the drivers side and was able to open the door. Actually this whole process took up a weekend's worth of time. My shim was just hardware store stock steel. It was about 1/8 inch thick, 1/2 inch wide and about 36 inches long.
I'd like to do something to modify the door latching mechanism to make sure it doesn't lock up again -- or if it does, it'd be easy to unlatch it. ANY SUGGESTIONS? Thanks
