I bought an electric water pump from Summit, and when I got it, I realized that there is not place for the heater return. Would it work just as well, or at all, if I ported it through the opening at the top? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Send it back, electric WP's are for the racer, not daily driver...i/e you stage and shut the pump off and make the race for the 10/11seconds.
Really isn't a longterm reliability part you want in a DD
It will never flow as much as a mechanical pump.... Ricer boy stuff is what I call it.. Kinda of like fishing lures for men... Yep it's shiny and purdy but it don't do nothin for keeping you motor cool... Dave..
New water pumps are fine for DDs and they will flow much more than regular pumps at idle in heavy traffic. I'm not sure what you mean by "the opening at the top", but I'm running my heater hoses off tees in the main radiator hoses. I'm also valving the heater line so I can turn it off in the summer.
