Default Pinion question

If I remove the yoke on the diff to seal the splines, and use permatex #2, will it be hard to remove next time? Would black high temp silicone sealent do the same thing? Also, would permatex red hightemp threadlocker be ok to use on the nut?

Permatex #2 does not harden like a rock. It remains somewhat plyable (sp). It should not be any harder to remove with the #2 Permatex. If you use red loctite it will be very hard to remove the nut. That is the one that takes heat to remove. Blue loctitie should be enough. I have #2 Permatex and blue loctite on mine and it was no more difficult to remove then original.

Thanks, I was afraid the permatex would harden real hard. I am use to the permatex that sets up real hard.

Why is permatex being placed on the spline?
I ask this out of pure ignorance so be gentle.

I would just put a dab of sealant on the back of the pinion nut washer. Nothing on the nut threads.

It keeps some of the leakage down. Some fluid can sometimes work its way out of the spines and cause a leak. Just a preventative.
