Default need carburetor plumbing help

I am restoring a 1980 vett and have discovered that Bubba has also done some work. I do not think I have a evap canister. The vent on top front of the carb has nothing connected to it. Thus it sometimes leaks some gas out. That keeps the intake manifold stained and I figure it has to be a fire hazard. Can I get a evap canister somewhere? Can I run the vent line streight in to a vacuum port on the the intake? Need suggestions.

DON'T DO THAT!!!
That will draw the fuel into the intake.
Unless you are going to replace all of the stuff Bubba took off, cap it up.

Will there be a problem with just capping the vent oppening on the carb?

No. There are other bowl vents on the carb.

I found the evap canister it really is there. Now the question is how should it be plumbed. I have two outlets on the front of the carb. One is open and the other is capped off. The pcv is connected to the large outlet. Since we are on the subject. I also have a hose from the right bank valve cover to the bottom of the after market air filter is that OK?

Thanks

Is this the vent you are talking about?

If so, don't plug it!
There is not supposed to be anything connected to that vent. If it is leaking fuel from there it means your float valve is not controlling the flow of fuel correctly. You need to rebuild your carb.

The vapor cannistor should be mounted inside the driver's side fender behind the wheel. It should be connected to a vacuum line going to the front of the carb. On a 73 it is tee'd into the PCV's vacuum source.

Wow thanks for the trouble to send illustrated picture. No this is not the vent(outlet) I am trying to know what to do about. The outlets I am trying to figure out are all external. They are on the front and come steight out of the carb. One of them is open and the other is plugged. At times some fuel comes from somewhere and leaks on the intake I think it is coming from the open port on the carb.

Thanks

I know which one you're talking about, front of the carb driver's side top of bowl BELOW where air cleaner would be. That's a VENT. If you don't plug it, or use it to vent to the canister, it will leak (gas and/or fumes). The one on the bottom is vacuum, and was/should be going to the PCV. (was probably also t-ed off to the canister, mine was). If you have any doubt as to something being vacuum or not, just start the car and see if it sucks or not. Well, you know what I mean.

I don't understand. Vacuum, whether it's from the manifold or the base of the carb, is still vacuum.

So if I take the top vent and run a line to the canister and then from the canister back to the carb vacuum on the bottom would that work OK?

That's true. But he was talking about hooking a direct vacuum from the manifold to the bowl vent. You don't want to do that as the vacuum, no matter where it's coming from, will draw fuel out of the bowl into the vacuum port.

I have seen online a vacuum hose routing diagram. I will try to find it when I get back from dinner.
I'm late...

You should probably find a vacuum routing diagram and make sure all the other vac lines that go to the canister are hooked up like they are supposed to. Mine had two that were just hanging off, I had no idea where they're supposed to go. I pulled all that stuff out, my canister is sitting on a shelf, and the vent in question is capped.
