Default Problems with bracket on BB starter

Ok, I know this sounds pretty minor, but I am having problems figuring out what to do about the bracket that goes on the front of my starter. I am just finishing up my swap from the ole' LS5 to the 496. Everything else has been a direct swap until I go to put the delco starter on. The starter itself bolted up fine, but the bracket that goes on the front of the starter to the block is made to accept a smaller bolt than the size of hole in the block. The new block is a 1/2 inch fine thread bolt hole whereas the old block was a 7/16 hole or maybe smaller. The problem is that if just drill out the bracket to accept a bigger bolt, there won't be enough metal left to make it sturdy. I could just have soemthing fab'ed up but that is going to cost $$$ since I don't have a machine shop. Anyone else run into this problem?

Oh, and by the way I was able to start it up for the first time the other day ( I made double sure that the timing was close because I didn't want to damage the block where the starter mounts up) I have never had so much nervous anticipation before! Man, sittin' there lopin' with those open headers.. inside my shop... let me tell you, it made all of the hair on the back of my neck stand on end!
