Default Fuel Line Insulation

Hi

I have a fuel line that runs extremely close to the header. what would be the best way to insulate it from the heat.

Thanks

JCWhitney has fuel line insulation. Part # ZX377543R. I used it to eliminate vapor lock before.

I've used a DEI Cool Tube on my fuel line for the last nine years, available from Summit.

Aeroquip makes a product called "fire sleeve" it has served me well laying an oil line on a header...there is also the silver reflective stuff available from most stock car parts dealers...

Hi
thanks for the reply but moving it is not really an option. it would kink the hose that goes from the line to the fuel pump. it already has the special "s" shaped hose in there. im just really looking for a type of tape or something to minimize the heat.
thanks

a heat shield might help too. With or without insulating the pipe itself.

What do you mean by "extremely close" - 1/2", 1/4", less"? Are you talking about one of the rubber hoses like the "S" line you mentioned, or a steel line?

If it's a rubber line - Unsafe...... do what ever it takes to get it away from the header.

If it's a steel line - I'd move it, not by kinking the line, but by bending a new one. May not be as simple as buying a pre-formed line, but in a case like this it may be safer.

I just took a look at my fuel pump...my engine is on a stand ready to be installed. I see what you are talking about. The fitting for the fuel inlet kind of points toward the back of the engine...toward the headers...as well as to the side...toward the solid line.

You could go with an electric fuel pump...available at Autozone, Kragen/Checker/Schucks, etc. part number E8012S:

Or...you could get a pump which has the fittings going in the other diretction, for example the Nova pump should bolt right on and has the fittings pointing forward...away from the headers part number 41216:

You will need to reroute the solid line leading up to the carb, but at least the lines should be safely away from headers.

I too would like to know just how close "extremely close" is.

In my case, I installed a fuel filter on the line where it makes the turn from atop the frame rail down to the fuel pump. That puts it 6-8" or so from the header. Close? Yeah... extremely close? I don't think so... hopefully won't cause me any problems.

the fuel line is about 1/4 of an inch away from the header. i bought a specialy shaped "S" hose to go to the fuel pump so it doesnt have a kink in it. and for that to fit the hard line had to go on the inside of the idolar pully. the only reason it is that close is i do not have stock cast iron headers.
