Default What Plugs to Get?

Ok, so Im about to embark on something that I never thought would be so difficult...but I tell ya when I looked at my vette engine for the first time a few days ago.... changing the spark plugs and leads(wires)!!! whoa...looks like such a job!

As it requires a bit of effort (I know to some of you its not much!)....I want to use excellent quality spark plugs and leads so that I can possibly avoid doing it again for a while.

So are there any particular Spark Plugs you guys recommend?

Thanks!

I also looked closely for the first time this weekend and my first thought was "where are the spark plugs?" If someone also could give the required steps to getting at them it would be greatly appreciated. (I thought my '98 F150 plugs were hard to get to!).

On stock vettes I would suggest using the factory installed A.C. plugs and wire sets, available thru any A.C Delco distributor, as well as most Corvette aftermarket companies.

I bet the F150 plugs were hard to get to, but the worst was doing them on my '86 Trans Am

Only plug that will run in my BB is Autolite. Crazy I know, but I've fouled out AC, NGK, and Acell.

There is a lot of chrome covering the spark plugs...those need to be pulled first. There's also some shielding for the wires (leads) that will need to be pulled. It's very cramped in there, so take your time. The wires (leads) run under the exhaust manifold and the ones going to the front plugs are clipped at the oil pan...they are loooong. Also, it's nearly impossible to get wires the right size, and very difficult to route the wires properly with the ends on them. I bought the universal kit from MSD...it's 8.5mm wires with only the spark plug socket installed...that way you can snake the other end where you need it to go...and then cut it to the exact length that you need.

I also like the fact that Platinum assists in combustion on a chemistry level, so I buy the Bosch Platinum plugs which are an OEM upgrade. Unfortunately AC Delco, Autolite, or any American manufacturer that I know of does not make a Platinum plug which cross-references to our plugs.

Default Autolite performed better in my LT1

than AC Delco. I also had good service out of the Bosch Platinums, did not foul out as soon. I now have a 383 stroker and will be using Autolite 3923 in it as opposed to the Platinum tipped plugs since that's what my engine builder recommended.
