Last winter, my 81 had transmission problems so I did not drive it much. But weekly I would go crank her up and let it run for a while. once or twice I turned on the radio. The car cover was over the section housing the antenna,so the automatic antenna couldn't come up. I don't remember how long it was before I would cut off the radio.
Now that the car is road-ready, my power antenna won't work. The relay was making a loud click when cutting the power on, and cutting it off. I replaced the relay. The first two tries w/the new one to get the antenna up, ( without success) there was no noise in the relay.
but the third time and thereafter, its again making that loud "clack" when turning on and turning off. The relay is only about $8 but how can I know if the antenna is history?
Should I go ahead and add this to my list when I go to Carlisle ?
Appreciate you'uns...jim
When I had my 81 I had same problems with my antenna. You will save yourself alot of headaches by just going out and buying a regular straight antenna and keep the stock around for later.
So the car cover prevented the antenna from coming up huh? Sounds like either the motor is burned out or there may be a mechanism that is binding.
Electrically disconnect your power antenna from the car. Connect 12V power directly to the motor, you may want to have a fuse in line. If you can't get the motor to run you know the relay & associated wiring is ok.
Pull the motor assembly apart and see if you can fix it before you go and buy another unit.
