4 Speed Part

Have this metal part sticking out of shift linkage

Any ideas what it does?
Reverse lockout? Backup Lights?
I have a Hurst shifter

Here is a different angle

Anyone have a good picture on where it should be placed/tucked/repaired?

That is the back-up lamp switch rod...It is all bent to hell...get a new one..it goes to the reverse lever (last lever to the rear).

The rod should go from your switch to the reverse linkage arm. In this picture it is labled BU switch rod. There should be a hole on it somewhere for the rod - it's right next to it in your picture.

There should be 2 wires coming off this also. It looks like they have been ripped off. You will probably need to replace the whole switch and rod to make the back up lights work.
