Default Power Antenna Relay

My power antenna on my 80 is not workig. I can hear a definative click from the relay behind the passanger seat when the radio is turned on or off. Is this normal or should it be an indication of a faulty relay. I realy do not want to try working on the mast motor assembly if I do not have to being in such a tight area.

How long has your power antenna not been working? If it has not been working in a long time like my 80 I had to replace the antenna motor in the driver side rear wheel well. This is b/c freezing rain/ice froze the antenna preventing the antenna to go up causing the motor to spin; so the previous owner cut the wires going to the antenna motor.
So, if I remember correctly, the clicking behind the passenger side seat is normal b/c the power antenna is powered on and off by negative ground. There should be 3 plugs behind the pass seat rear compartment, check thoroughly the all the prongs are pluged into the plugs correctly, if so in my opinion its the antenna motor the is the culprit.
I hope this information helps.

Does your motor run but the antenna still does not go up or down? If you can hear your motor running the problems is usually the cable that pulls the rod up and down. There is a repair kit for that sold thru Ecklers and other vendors. Otherwise it sounds like the motor might have to be replaced.

I will have to stick my head up under the fender while someone turns on the radio and listen for any type of movement or sound from the motor. Thanks for the info.

Renewing this thread. I’m having this exact issue. The power antenna was working; however, I changed out the stereo, aftermarket to aftermarket, and the problem started. It’s weird though, because when I turn the ignition on, it works normal. It’s only when the ignition is off.

Any help is appreciated.
