I've got a Barry Grant tuned Holley 750 dp. This is a carb I bought off eBay and it's having some problems. I noticed that after running, and the car sits for a while, it takes a bunch of cranks to get car started. After I got it running for a few minutes I shut it off and looked at the carb. Sure enough, there seems to be air & fuel leaking out of the transition slot. What I mean is I see a bubble every 2 seconds or so come from the transition slot (primary side) and then I can see a small amount of fuel sread out over the throttle blade. It appears to happen only on the driver side primary blade. It's not so bad that the bowl completely goes dry....or, at least, the next morning I can pump throttle and gas comes out.
I had kind of the same problem except my carb was bubbling out of the air bleeds. I got one of those inexpensive heat shield/insulating gaskets made by Holley. I used both for a while but now I only use the insulator part. It seems to work....
OK, I tried a 1" phenolic and that didn't do the trick. When I shut the engine off and see the fuel boiling out I touched the spacer and it is cold to the touch. Maybe it's my fuel line?? It rests agains the coolant line and probably picks up a fair amount of heat.
Could be. Does this carb have all the stock Holley parts on it?

I haven't done anything to it but I'd say mostly stock. It's a Barry Grant tuned Holley. Choke horn milled off, choke provisions filled in, etc.
Not sure if it's related but the throttle shafts seem to have too much play. I've been considering either taking it to a carb shop to have them tighen it up or just replace with a billet base plate.
