Question #1: What is the best way to remove the hardwear from the front of the trailing arm. This is for a 1979 Corvette which the bushings have never ben changed.
Question #2: What is the best way to remove the shock mounting pin from the trailing arm, it appears to be pressed in?
Beat mine silly yesterday with a 4 lb Sledge. No Luck. I just put it back together and will order new strut rods, bushings, and a bigger hammer (Blue Flame wrench).
Take a sawsall and cut the trailing arm bolts on each side of the trailing arm. Once you have the trailing arm out put it in a vise and put nuts on the shock strut to protect the threads or buy the tool (aprox $15.00) and hammer the strut off of the trailing arm. Do not try to turn it to loosen it because it has a flat side to it and will ruin it if you turn it in the training arm. When you reassemble it put anti sieze on it to keep it from rusting to the trailing arm again. This is a job that you can do, just take your time and do it correctly. Good luck.

The special tool is the best idea. It is possible to damage the threads using nuts if you're hammering on the nut. Ask me how I know.
Both of my shock mounts are frozen pretty solid and one of the struts was frozen onto the shock mount. Since I have new struts waiting to be installed, I just sawed the offending strut off and I'll be sending the arms to Van Steel to be rebuilt.
