I have a quick question about the smog control unit on a 1975 Corvette...can I just remove this unit to free up some HP? I plan to add True Duals so the exhaust tap will not be a problem. Would this require any re-tuning? Also, I assume you can just take this off an put it back to original if required...not that I would ever sell this car anyway!
Lastly, where can I purchase a complete shop manual for the Vette? I saw one on this site for $100.00, any where else?
I have found that the Chilton's repair manual is about the best. $20-$25 at any parts store or vette vendor. I also recommend an Assembly manual. About $30 with binder at any most vette vendors. The assembly manual comes in most handy when making most repairs. Shows how things go together. As for the smog equipment, you will most likely not notice any performace gain from removing the smog pump. You may see some gains from a true dual system, expecially if your cat is somewhat plugged up. I would keep all the smog gear. May come in handy down the line depending on you states smog laws or for resale. Lee

The smog pump isnt costing you any horsepower that anything short of a DYNO will be able to sense...maybe 2 or 3 hp...definitly do the duals - THAT will give you much more gain than removing smog gear - the car will sound better and it will require a little tuning to take full advantage of.
As for most anything, eBay is the place to get shop manuals. I paid about $15 (or less) each for mine - I have the '77 car manual (includes Corvette), the '77 Unit Assembly Manual, the '77 Corvette electrical troubleshooting book, the '77 car wiring diagrams, and the '77 light truck manual (for non-corvette reasons).
