Default Radiator?

I've decided I want to switch to an aluminum radiator. I'd like to keep the $$ down to around 200. Where's a good place to start looking for a good radiator and if you've got one like I'm looking for, do you have any prob's with it? Or with the install? Oh, I've got a '79 L82.

Thanks

Default Spend the $ and go with DeWitts..

In my case the radiator and cooling problems of my BB vette meant that I "needed"?? to spend some $. I replaced everything water pump, seals, shroud etc. It cost over $2,000! In retrospect if I was going to do it again and on the cheap, which after my experience is possilbe I would go with a DeWitts stock type replacement. It had the most effect on reducing temps and fit fine. Just use new seals. Even at $495 its not a bad deal, 'cause it works.

Also if you paint it black it almost looks stock.

You want to know about radiators, aluminum or brass? Click on this link. . . It might help you with deciding. Finding a aluminum radiator for 200.00 is impossible! DeWitt's offers a varity of replacement radiators for even later cars, but nothing from Dewitt's, Bee-Cool or any other manufacturer is going to be that cheap. I'm sorry, but it won't happen unless you get lucky and find a used radiator.

You got to decide if you want an aluminum radiator or spend $200. To get what you want at that price you'll have to check the junk yards.

Go with DeWitts, you won't be sorry. Get the electric fans too while you are in there. Do it once and be done.

Once you get the clutch fan, & shroud out of the way you can pull the old rad. drop in the new one with out taking off the hood or moveing
the rad. support. it'll go right in. you wont need the shroud with
the electric fans, they cool just fine without it.

84-92 camaro radiator,Autozone, $120, plastic & alum, have to modify the saddles slightly and find a donor hose and some 1 1/2" pipe to splice the donor hose to the original. it wasn't hard to do and has performed fine for over 2 years now.

I ordered my DeWitts direct fit aluminum radiator yesterday. From everything I've read, it's the biggest "no-brainer" in the history of mankind!

Once I get it installed, I'll consider the dual SPAL set-up for good measure.

Bottom line...from what I've read, spend the money for the DeWitts. You get what you pay for.
