I have finally decided to "bite the bullet" and send the heads on my '71 LS-5 out for a little rebuild/port job. I have contacted precision porting, Felder racing and Louthan Competition. Gessler can do this too; however the prices seem a little high. Plus he seems to be a mostly Buick guy. All of the aforementioned shops have pretty good ideas. Precision Porting can supply all of my coating needs though. My intent is to do a mild port job and go with bigger valves. Also have the intake and exhaust manifolds will be ported and matched to the heads. Does anyone believe the coatings to be "worth" it in a basic upgrade?
Does anyone have any experience with these shops? Or can one be recommended? I live in Houston, Texas; of course it would be great if there was a local shop with the expertise, but its not a big deal. Anyone use Bumbera's in Houston?
After the above I would do a cam swap maybe to a Voodoo 262/268, 219/227 @ 0.050 with 530/542" lift. LSA is 112. Any other suggestions? I want a nice runner that looks mostly stock. Of course the Q-jet will need a little work and I will no doubt upgrade to an MSD 6.
See if Dennis Fairman still has his machine shop. I used him 20 something years ago, when I lived in Houston. I think he is still around..(Fairman's Machine)?
