Trying to determine if I have short or long water pump . . . kind of looks to be a long. I know on the Big Blocks whatever side the alternator is on tells what the pump is. This a 68 with what shoudl be a 69 350 in it, the alternator is on the drivers side. I want to order a new aluminum pump but need to know before I go order it to avoid having to pay retrun shipping costs if its not the correct one.
But I cant be sure if its a vette motor with vette accessories, but was told its a 69. Deck has been machined but the casting number shows a 69. Doesnt the alternator location have anything to so with it? What sides are your guys alternator on?

There is a specific "Corvette" short pump - I believe it measures 5.8" (as opposed to the "standard" short pump at 5.625") and it has a 3/4" shaft.

He's right its neither ! its a corvette water pump. Had a friend bring his vette in and some one had put a short waterpump in and washers to make the pullys line up ! what a joke. he asked why the pully wobbled ! I handed him 3 bucks worth of washers. If you cannot do it right why bother.

Well, he's almost right. The 5.8" "Corvette" pump didn't come into being until 1971 and was used through the 1982 build. Prior to that(1970 and back), a regular "short" pump was used. Beyond the length difference, the pilot was 3/4" rather than the standard short pump's 5/8". Makes a difference in accessory drives in both alignment and fitting the pulley/fan on the pump.

Thanks for that!! I wasn't aware that the switch was that late - thought it was earlier in the 60's. Good to know.
