I have never had any problems with my wiper system .. this morning
after using my wipers several times, the door decided to not open.
It happens even when I use the override under the dash.
If I move the door manually to the open position and then move the switch under the dash, to close the door, it works fine. Just no upward movement.
Any suggestions ??
I'm figuring there are two vacuum relays, the one under the cowl and the other under the right side fender.
Which would you think is most likely the culprit ??
It's difficult to say which vacuum relay is giving you problems- the position sensing relay under the wiper door or the one under the fender. They can each be tested by pulling a vacuum (either with a vacuum pump or just by sucking on the hose) to the center port and plugging the outboard port to check for leaks in the seal. The relay under the fender is vauum actuated and you can feel/hear it switching when you suck on the smaller actuator port and then let it go- it will make a small clunking sound when you let the vacuum off.
These can be rebuilt by either following the instructions here: http://209.183.231.72/corvette-101/vacuum.htm#relay
(as well as more detailed diagnostics), or I have actually put Orings around the plunger seal once inside the relay (you have to grind out the inside to make them thinner- PITA)
It's unlikely that it's your wiper door actuator giving you problems, since it uses the same diaphragm to move up as down.
Check the vacuum hose for opening- the fronter one. I had it come off on me one morning and lost the headlights too. It looked like it was on but wasn't.
The rubber boot that is inside of the wiper door canister - popped out.
I just happened to slide the dust boot back to inspect it and it was staring me in the face !
Thanks
Bill
Thats great news!
Well, my wiper door doesn't work, not even the override switch...which is a bummer...sounds like I have a vacuum leak.. Im going to replace the hoses with a hose kit from Doc Rebuild.
But can I ask something>> The wiper door canister - is that on the passenger side in the engine bay against the firewall?? the thing that you take off the rubber grommet so that you can manually override the wiper door?

Yes. Technically known as the wiper door actuator.

Thanks Eddie...thats what I thought it was called - Wiper Door Actuator. But I was hoping there was another thing that I missed and was holding out hope I would have an easy fix to my wiper door problem!
Im about to go and see if I can look up under the dash from underneath and see if there is a hose thats come off.
(theres a loud hissing sound from under the dash when I have the engine running).
