Default White smoke when decelerating above 50 MPH

I bought Corvette in Feb of this year. Car has had a 2003 valve job. when purchased the car I looked at car the weekend before I picked it up and failed to check oil. Could not imagine him driving it to meet me without oil. When I had paid for car and was about to leave, I checked oil, to my surprise no oil, he gave me one that is all he had then I took to local station to add 2 more. He gave me a song and dance, but had already given him a cashiers check and he had signed over title. Car uses a mild amount of oil. 1/2 quart in 600 miles. Does not smoke except when I go over 50 and back off on the pedal hard. Then it smokes especially if I am going 75 or so and let off gas quickly to decel. I assume I need valve seals, but what else shall I look at? It does not run hot.

had the same problem when i bought my 73 . he was a circle track engine builder and stroked the orig l-48 to a 383. when i bought it it also was low on oil,, the oil milage was horrible,250 miles a quart and i noticed the same thing, when i backed off the gas on the highway, she smoked,we tore the heads off,and he had the intakes opened to 2.02,but cheesed with the valve guides, they were worse than a car with 200,000 miles so the machine shop re-did all the guides and put the umbrella seals ,,ect,,, milage now varys 850 to 900 a quart depending how hard i drive it,, one thing the machine shop said is that due to the fact that the guy put in chrome moly rings, and the rings had a constant bath of oil, they never broke in right, how true that is i dont know,,,the vaccume drops when you let off the gas at that speed and the oil gets sucked in thru the guides, one day i was thinking of re-ringing my stroker, but for now the oil milage seems pretty normal, but i have spoke with other stroker owners who claim that they dont use any,

I have had some issues with oil and valve (seals?) leaking since mine was stroked. Luckily the place that did the work for me considers all that warrenty and had taken it three times to change seals and search for leaks. Is it common for the strokers to use/leak oil?

Had a similar problem, 200miles/QT, new heads. Found out I used the wrong intakes gaskets and had 5 broken rings! No leaks,no fouled plugs, no smoke at idle.

Edelbrock told me to use Fel-pro #1256 w/Peformer intakes
#1205 w/RPM intakes

Good Luck,
Gary

White smoke means one of two things:

1) a new Pope has been elected.

or

2) I thought it meant a cracked head that was allowing antifreeze into the combustion chamber. Isn't oil burning always blue?

Oil could be seen as white but white is a check on the coolant. Since oil is disappearing, more so since this is where it can go too. Into the coolant. And the top worst is coolant going into your oil.

Thanks to all for your advise, I know I have some work to do. The coolant is ok, has not changed, so I know I have a valve, ring, gasket or head problem. Just was curious whether a vacumn issue or carb issue could do be problem. I did have a black problem but adjusted carb and idle to get that under control. Also found that the vacumn hose to carb that was to go to Distributor was crossed with the one that went to the Vapor recovery canister. I am still new at this game. Thanks again for all your thoughts!!!!
