Default tracing a short

I have a 1977 L82. recently I have been doing a complete interior replacement.
The center gauges have a new pc board and new clock. Only the clock works correctly the fuel gauge reads a partial amount no other gauge registers any thing.
after leaving my car overnight I discovered the battery was dead. This was traced back to the cigarette lighter/coutesy lights/ clock circut.
I pulled this fuse and the short is gone.
How do I go about tracing the short from here????
Am I correct in assuming that the short must be beyond the fuse and everything before the fuse is ok??
Please help as I am lost!

The fuse method is great to find the problem circuit...which you know know. The Hayne's repair manual has the best electical schematics...get yourself a copy and see what color wire it is and follow it to where it goes. I'm looking at that schematic and it indicates a 14 gauge orange wire which runs to many devices. One of them is the anti-theft control switch...which I believe in the 77 is mounted in the door as part of the door lock. I'd start there...and I'd also check the dome light.

Many electrical problems in our vettes are due to poor grounding...check the ground wires on the pc board.
