I am thinking about putting on a polished intake manifold with the stock quadrajet and was considering eliminating the EGR, what all has to be done to eliminate it and relative components?
Get the intake gaskets with the metal plate that blocks the crossover...depending on heads you have, FelPro 1205/04 should work.
Egr is just vacuum controlled via Thermal Vacuum Switch, probably located on the Tstat housing...plug the ported vac line at the carb, remove the TVS and plug with 1/4 or 3/8th NPT fitting.
But, all said, egr reduces cylinder temps at cruise and allows a little more vacuum advance...and a bit better milage...since it's run off ported vacuum, and EGR is pretty much inactive at WOT without vacuum or low vacuum.
The EGR does not cause any problems as long as it is working properly. After all these years it might not be working right anymore. You can block off the passage with a commonly available block off plate. I would recurve the distributor at that time to a typical performance curve.

Sorry, I have a 78 L48. I was going to remove it because I thought temps would be lower. Also the intakes I've been looking at are cheaper without EGR. Thanks for the info
