Default Grounding braided plug wires - distributor end

Where do I ground braided spark plug wires on the distributor end on a 71 LS5 / 454 / BB?

Thanks.

The wire/shield support brackets on either side of the intake manifold have studs (10/24, I think) that you stack the 4 grounds onto. Then put a nut on to secure them.

Hmm. No studs on my manifold and no shield of course. Thanks for the info. This NOM I have is starting to haunt me. I thought the manifold was orrigional. I guess I really need to get into the numbers and decode what I have.

Can anyone reccomend any good on or off line databases for decoding engine components. I guess I'll start with the manifold.

Thanks again.

If you have an assembly manual, it shows how the ignition shielding and wire supports are bolted to the intake. All the parts are available thru mail-order suppliers.

It should be similar to the 68/9 BB setup. There are two brackets which mount on the rear manifold bolts. the shielding is mounted to these brackets. the plug leads (and braids) enter the shielding through a four way grommet. Inside the shielding, and it may be on the bracket, is a stud which the braids slide over and are held by a nut. the braids have a lug crimped on them at both ends. one end is held by the rocker cover bolts and the other is in the shielding as described.

I just went through this on my 69, L-71, but decided to stay with regular rubber sparkplug wires. After getting all the braided wires inside the shielding and trying to get them seated on the grounding stud, I decided they were much too close to the coil terminals. I didn't want to risk shorting out my coil and TI, and get stranded. It didn't look too safe to me.

Just my 2 cents.
