My tach cable broke and was about to order one and then remembered reading an article about converting to electronic. My dash is coming apart this fall anyway and I understand there is a clock company in TN that will convert your mechanical tach to electronic. Does anyone know how to hook up the electronics? And those of you that have converted, are you pleased with the results? Or should I stick with what the mechanical?
Electronic is a great way to go. I wouldn't keep my mechanical tach if somone paid me. There are two types of mechanical tachs, those that have failed, and those that are about to fail. As much as I enjoy having little chunks of gears floating around inside my motor, I switched mine to elec.
Talk to Mike Mercury, he can do the conversion for you for a reasonable price. I strongly doubt that it can be done for $25. I started to do mine myself, but first I was going to have to buy a used tach out of a 76'. The cheapest I could find one for was $75.
I had one converted by Corvette Instruments in Florida (I believe the guy's name is Scott). It was not cheap but it was what I wanted. If you want his info, let me know.
Corvette Clocks by Roger is the guy in TN. He rebuilt my center cluster and did a fine job. I bought a tach from a 77 for mine. I like it very well except the numbers are white instead of green and are a different "font" than 68-71.

Wow.....a voice from the past Start another thread and tell us where and how you have been
Yes I used corvette instruments to redo the face on a 76 tach to match the 70 green gauges on Ramjet! Got the tach for ~$50 and he charged $50 to reface. total $100.
