I'm removing the front clip from a 79 do to extensive body damage . The new clip attaches at the firewall. How do I remove the old fiberglass that's bonded to the firewall ?
It's really not that hard, recently did it myself. A tip I got from the guys at J&D Corvette is first to buy one of those paint stripping heat guns from home depot (about $30). Focus the heat on the bonding strip adhesive and lo and behold, the bond will relase and the strips will peel off. You can cut pieces of the panels away to make access easier, but make sure you're wearing long sleeves and a dust mask. Those fiberglass strands will get in the skin on your arms and make you crazy. I'm crazy already.
2 fiberglassing tips.
Use a tyvek suit or any suit. Another words space man. I now have a supplied air hood and one reason I got it was for glass. If you have anything like it use it.
If you get the itchies a pair of panty hose wiped on your arms should remove the glass. I've never done this but heard it works very well.
