Default Frame Interchangability

I have a 1979 frame from a parts car I recently picked up. My 1980 frame is rusted through.Would an 80 body fit on a 79 frame without much modifications ? I know the rear is different. I have all the 79 parts exept the engine. The 79's body is very rough.The 80 body is in very good shape.

yes apart from the batwing problem it should fit.

The batwing is the rear diff carrier, part of the diff cover. Your choice is mod or use the earlier cast iron rear end, you'll need a bunch of extra parts though besides the earlier diff (halfshafts, camber bracket + rods)

In case you might be interested in repairing your 80 rusted frame, I have a good rear section of an 80-82 frame that I'm not planning on using. Everything behind the #2 body mount is good, solid, and straight on both sides. No previous damage or rust issues. The front clip has been cut off it.

I could bring it as far as central Ohio at Thanksgiving time.
