Hi everyone, when you advance the timing, is there any modifications you need to do to the carburetor?
I advanced the timing from 6 to 14 on my '78. Runs so much better, especially improved lower end. But, it is now REALLY hard to start. Wants to flood easily when I first try to start it after sitting a week or so. QJet is recently tuned and was working perfectly before I did the timing change.
Running about the same temp. Possibly slightly hotter. Not near a problem though. The car starts fine once it has run a bit, it is just the initial start after sitting for several days tha is tough.

One possibility for ya - after a few days it may be that the fuel in your fuel bowl has evaproated and the engine has to turn over a few times to pump gas into the carb. To see if this is true, next time your car has sat a few days pull the air cleaner and pump the accelerator pump by hand before you crank the engine over. If no gas shoots out your bowl is empty.
Thank you for your post, Boofers. That was something I already checked. Gas squirts, and so is present in the bowls.
I am wondering if the mixture screws need to be adjusted, or even the choke "lean <--> rich". Maybe since the timing is advanced, it is now too rich, and floods. Thanks again. I will fiddle with the mixture screws, see if trial and error will get the thing to start next time.
