In a nutshell, the 68-71 Corvettes have a fiber optic lamp monitoring system which tells you if you have a lamp out when the lights are on. The lamps shine through the fiber optic cable to telltales on the console. It's a non-electrical system, but is part of the front and rear wiring harnesses. Any break in the fiber cable and the light value at the console diminishes.
Fiber optics ... small plastic strings that transmit light from
your headlights, taillights, and license plate to a display
in the car. This way, you have visual comfirmation that the
lights are all working. If the bulb goes out, you see the FO
display is dark. Very popular on many Cadillacs. I have FO on
my Buick Park Ave and love 'em. Someday I will install some in my vette.
Works as described above. I like they system but there are a lot of people that hate it, just like the wiper door. I like the wiper door also, it is cool.

I like the headlight washers too.
The fiber optics were very useful in the late 60's & early 70's when people were getting pulled over for dumb stuff so they could be checked for drugs. AKA pot. A quick glance would tell the driver if a light was out or not.
I had long hair back then and got pulled over for a lot of stupid reasons.... they call it "profiling" these days. Long hair is no longer an issue for me. LOL
... only if you have the light fixtures that accept them ... else you will
need to drill holes on your tailight housings, etc.
I was considering the Caddy ones that mount on the fenders ... but
recess them into the fender edge or hood. The stock vette interior
pieces are too pricey for me.
