Has anyone done a hydraulic clutch coversion, and what are your thoughts of both the install and outcome for use???? I have an 80 that I'm waiting on the setup for,( due to bad knee, hoping to have less aggrivation to it.) Just wondering how tricky if at all to install and Bleed. The slave cylinder is already on the front of the new tremic 5 speed and in the car. I can get my hand in the hole where the fork would go to install the line to that, so that part should be okay. Thanks for any input.. Ron
I ran a hydraulic clutch on my 75 and the donor master cylinder came from a 85 one ton truck. The master bolted directly to my firewall without drilling anything. The clutch linkage did need shortening.
As for a resovior Coleman sells really nice remote ones.
Use a brake line to join the clutch master and the slave cylinder.
Bleeding. I never bled mine. The clutch master is much higher and I just added fluid.
I ran it for 4 years now.
Carguy4sure is doing this in late September so he will know.
I just bought a complete T5 from an 86 camaro. I can't find any spot on my firewall of my 79 where the master bolts to. I'm converting from an auto. Anyone have any pics? Also are the camaro pedals closely the same as the vettes?
In my 68 vette, I am running the standard mechanical setup with a dual friction clutch; I feel this setup is excellent.
Now, in my 69 Camaro, I did go from a mechanical to a hydraulic setup. This was very much worth the money as the car is now much easier to drive. I'm not sure how much of an improvement it would have made in the vette though.
I'm running the F-Body stuff. Norval's set up is easier. I think I might have one of those truck masters in my attic, if you want it.
Thanks for the offer, but I ordered one made for the car from Keisler with my TKO. It just hasn't come in yet. I'll let you know how it goes after I get it. Ron
So that opening is just below the master cylinder. What is the bracket your holding for?
Chris
Yes, the master cylinder is actually in the hole. (Note: The lower hole is for steering brackets, ignore it.) The bracket shown in the second picture is something I fabricated to fit behind the brake booster and hold the master. It works ok, but I will probably replace it with a thick steel bracket next time I'm in there. There is alot of pressure on it and it flexs a little.
