All of a sudden, my idle went south. Upon inspection, the front float bowl was leaking (Holley). When I put a wrench on it, I found the two bottom bowl threads were stripped. I took the carb off the car and sure enough when I took the bowl off the female threads came out with the bolts.
Now I was going to a larger carb anyway, but I would like to get back on the road until then. I have some ideas on how to make new taps but I thought I would tap (pun) your brains first.
Anybody have this happen? What do you guys think?
I put in a 1/4 - 20 bolt in the front float of my Holley 6210, before I sh*t-canned it. Drill out the float to fit the 1/4" bolt and then tap the metering block. It's a $5.00 fix, even if you buy the correct drill bit and tap. I ran mine with the tapped bolt for almost 2 years before I got rid of it, but not because of the float problems. It didn't leak and ran fine.
I've done that many times. Heli-coil it. I've got the correct kit if you need any info. I bought it at a local bolt & screw co. for around $25. The carb has to be totally disassembled to do this.
