Ignition cylinder spinning...?
What parts do I need to replace and how do I get to the "guts" of the ignition cylinder?
Theres a hole next to where the key goes in. With the key in push a pin or some other small rod like object in the hole. The key mechanism will come out.
This just takes the locking part out not the whole ignition switch.
The lock cylinders that are installed in the steering column head do not have a hole and require that you partially disassemble the steering column in order to remove the ignition lock cylinder. It requires that you remove the steering wheel and hub. Then you need to remove the locking plate. Remove the three screws that hold the turn signal switch and pull the switch up and out of the way so that you can reach the spring loaded tab and remove the lock cylinder.
It is not a particularly difficult procedure. If your problem is with a 1969 steering column (or later), I have fairly complete instructions posted at www.corvettefaq.com The procedure is just a bit different depending if you have a T&T column or a standard (non-adjustable) type.
