I know it's been talked about before but my search can't find it
I just swapped rear gears from 4.10s to 3.36s & of course my speedo now reads about 10 mph slow! Somebody must know what speed gear is needed in this 69 M-21 tranny to make it right? Please
An gear ratio help or part #s help would be greatly appreciated
Need to know how many teeth are on the existing output gear of trans. The color will tell you how many teeth are on it (need to look it up) divide that by 4.10 then mutiply the answer by 3.36 and thats the output gear you need. If its not available then you need to change both speedo gears in the trans.
The error on the speedometer is not a fixed number.
4.10 divided by 3.36= 1.22 1.22 X speed on the speedo= the actual speed with new gears. 25MPH reading= 30.5 actual
60MPH reading= 73.2 actual

Every tooth change is approx 3MPH at the speedo. So you need to change to a gear with 3 fewer teeth to speed it up.
Why do the different teeth gears also have different outside diameters ?
If I use the red one, it works fine, but indicated wrong. If I use the clear one, it breaks after few miles as it's gear diameter is much bigger.
