Default Steering Wheel Removal

How difficult is it to remove the steering wheel? Do I need a wheel puller. It looks like a bunch of screws under the horn conver. Do all you have to do is remove all the screws? Any help is appreciative. Thanks!

On my '81 some screws hold the wheel and some hold the telescope ring. No puller is needed

C3 steering wheels are held on by the screws you see. You do not need a puller to remove the wheel.

On my 72, which should be virtually identical to your 81 column (I thin\kn) , you DO need a puller to remove the large nut holding the wheel to the shaft. Pullers are cheap and some stores will even loan them out. The small screws referenced hold the tilt/tele and the horn apparatus.

You need no puller. Just remove the screws, the wheel will simply come off.

Backing up a bit......if my new wheel ever comes in.... I'll have this job to do too. Does the horn center piece just pull off? Any danger of loosing or breaking something when removing it? will sparks fly? etc. etc. ?

Your horn button is held in place by a spring loaded clip. Just pull it toward you without problems.
