The harmonic balancer installer I rented from Auto Zone broke in half at the adapter that screws int the crank; the adapter appears one piece, but it is actually two neatly bonded together and will come apart when pushing a tight damper Who makes a GOOD heavy duty installer ? .......my damper is 95% in and I need to finish the job! Thanks in advance.....
I had an AutoZone installer fail and pull some threads out of the crank! I went back to the same store and borrowed their NEW replacement installer. Make sure to put ATF on both the crank and the inside surface of the damper. It also helps to warm up the damper- I laid an old trouble light with a 100 watt bulb on mine for about an hour. Have everything ready to install before it cools down. Good luck.
I have BHJ install kit HB-1 ... first class and very robust ... pricey but made in USA. I have one of those proform cheapies too ... the first one I broke ... the proform replacement is the one I loan out ... not the bhj.
Cheap as I am I got a grade 8 bolt and nut and pulled it on with the balancer washer.l Cost about $2.00.Just turn the bolt in by hand, and use the bolt and washer to pull the balancer on with a wrench.
Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I just ordered a new installer from Snap-On, as some local engine builders suggested as "a very good one".....Marv, I will definitely use the heat lamp idea, and I oiled the parts well before starting (95% is already installed)......hope to finish this weekend.
