What you should do is buy an early copy of the "Chevrolet power book" (ebay is a good place to look, just make sure it has the Corvette section) and do what it says!!

I need to know:
- How to stiffen the frame / body.
- Pro's / Con's of what others have done.
The existing/original frame is almost perfect and I don't mind adding a little weight if it prevents/delays spider cracking in the paint. Last thing I want to do is repaint every other year.
If some good mods require removing the installed components. I'd rather do it now than when the body is back on.

The front of the book deals with engines and the back has a section on beefing the corvette frame, roll bar dimensions and other stuff on springs, bars and brakes.
Gussets on the frame are #1 benefit.
Welded in roll bar ... better but noticable and irreversible mods.
Get a front spreader bar ... Vette Brakes and Products.
That's about it.
The most important area is the lower front control arm brackets.
These often weaken and break off the crossmember ... ouch.
Weld along the edges of the bracket and put in the gussetts
here - for sure.
