Default Frame Stiffening

My intent is to build a autocross worthy car that is mostly used on the street.

Currently the body is off and the suspension, brakes and fuel systems are going on.

What do I need to do to ensure or limit flexing from high HP (400-450+/-), it being a convertable and tossing it into corners in the future?

Should I weld the frame compleatly?
Other than a brace between shock towers and a roll cage are there other aftermarket braces avaiable?

Thanks for your time,

What you should do is buy an early copy of the "Chevrolet power book" (ebay is a good place to look, just make sure it has the Corvette section) and do what it says!!

The power book is for building engines.

I need to know:
- How to stiffen the frame / body.
- Pro's / Con's of what others have done.

The existing/original frame is almost perfect and I don't mind adding a little weight if it prevents/delays spider cracking in the paint. Last thing I want to do is repaint every other year.

If some good mods require removing the installed components. I'd rather do it now than when the body is back on.

Fully weld the frame. If you don't mind bars in the car, an 8 or 10 point roll-cage will do wonders for frame stiffness!

The front of the book deals with engines and the back has a section on beefing the corvette frame, roll bar dimensions and other stuff on springs, bars and brakes.

Go here.

About 1/3 the way down the list is a link to a .pdf file entitled "Chevy Power Book On Corvette".

Gussets on the frame are #1 benefit.
Welded in roll bar ... better but noticable and irreversible mods.
Get a front spreader bar ... Vette Brakes and Products.
That's about it.

The most important area is the lower front control arm brackets.
These often weaken and break off the crossmember ... ouch.
Weld along the edges of the bracket and put in the gussetts
here - for sure.

My car is much stiffer with the five-point roll bar welded in.

Don't forget to plate over the hole located on the outside of the frame by the steering box.

Also box around the front sway bar mounting pads. Add gussets to the frame around the A arms.
