For sure the fan would be too far foward, you might need electric fans. Also, the P.S. pump would have to be moved up, as the pulley is already too close to the frame.

Thanks to Larry at Sallee Chevrolet, the folks who were ready to ship my crate motor and to big-g for verifying it....the motor won't fit with the serpentine belt assy.
Now I am concerned about the clearance between carb and hood on the '78.
The plan now is a 383 stroker with fastburn heads(425hp) with my factory ps pump,ac,alt, no fan and multiple belts. Will a 750holly and vortec intake fit under the hood? If not, what will.
I already have the b-cool rad with duel fans and hooker jet hot headers coming.........man, I thought I had everything worked out......what a bummer.

We have a 78 in our shop with a fast burn ZZ-385 and it fits fine under the hood. It has the GM intake p/n 12464340 intake and Holley Street Avenger carb. It all fits under the hood.

thanks big-g
I suppose there is no height difference in the 383 stroker as they both have same heads don't they?

big_G...12464340 is the casting# of that intake. The part # is 12366573 for the ZZ385 intake.

David, if you are talking about the ZZ383 the 425hp was gained by using a single plane intake. It is taller than the 12366573. You can subtitute 12366573 for the single plane but you will lose 15-20 hp. Since the ZZ383 doesn't come with an intake you might could opt for a edelbrock air gap vortec intake and use a drop base air cleaner for hood clearance. Sallee should know the differences in height between these intakes.

OK Lynn, thanks guys. I'll try to get that info tomorrow from Sallee.

So, now I know the 12366573 is called a high rise duel plane and works, but is shorter than a single plane and unknown if it is as short as a air gap vortec. Also don't how much can be gained with a drop base air cleaner . Thanks, I think we are getting there.
