Default How do you remove/install crossed flags

Just got my '71 Vert and as I expected the crossed flags on the nose are faded. There seems to be some white goop holding them in-place. I have a new NOS set that I would like to re-install.

How do you remove the old set and what type of glue/sealent is used to hold the pins in-place?

Thanks!

There are speed nuts that you can access either with the hood open or from underneath through the lower valance, I used some double sticky tape to the backside of my emblems to protect it from scratching my new paint job in the event I need to remove them.. hope this helps

When you pop the hood to reach in there and remove the speed nuts, do yourself a favor and stick something into the hood lock so it can't come down on your arm and hand. ONce you do that, you can carefully reach into the cavity under the front valance and feel the speed nuts. I used a 1/4" wrench (and I think 7/16" nut) to loosen the speed nuts. I used The Last Detail for my new front emblem. They had two of them - the better one cost a bit more but it was a work of art. Go carefully - this is pretty easy.

The white goop sounds like hardware store caulk. Watch out for chipping the paint around the holes where the emblem posts go through the fiberglass. Sometimes the cut threads from the speed nuts will catch the paint and break off a piece. Also a proping the hood is a good suggestion, that would hurt bad!
