Default how to get better cold starting

anyone got any tips? i have all new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, i set the timing, new air filter, but i'm not sure what to do about the fuel system. someone put an edelbrock qjet replacement with an electric choke on it. when it's been runnin a few minutes and u cut if off and start it again it starts fine but if u leave it off just long enough to run in a store or something it turns over forever before firing. would a new stock fuel pump help this or maybe even an electric fuel pump?

thanks,

Brad

I've got the same problem, but only after the car sits awhile (several hours). Also have replacement Edelbrock Q-Jet w/elec. choke.

All symptoms point to choke adjustment...

My car did the same thing before/after the Edlebrock swap. Went from stock Q-Jet w/heat operated choke to Edlebrock w/elec. choke. Still takes a lotta cranking to get it fired up.

I had this same problem and ended up installing a manual choke carb. It was time to upgrade the carb anyway. The electric choke was very hard to keep adjusted correctly and I still had to adjust at least twice a year for the winter and summer. The manual is way easier to deal with. If it needs more choke, then you simply just pull the lever and give it more. When the engine warms up just close the choke yourself and drive off. You have a better piece of mind knowing that when you close the choke by hand, it is closed, (you can feel it) not like with an electric. Also with electric you have to pump the accel. pump a few times and hold the throttle partly open to get it started because chances are that the choke is not even set up correctly. With a manual choke I just pump it like 3 times and start it with no throttle.
