I want to take off my hood so I can paint the underside. How heavy are they and are they difficult to maneouver? Oh yeah after I paint it do I have to seal it? Thanks
i pulled mine alone. was careful and had no problems. but i wasnt to worried about paint scratches as mine needs redone anyhow. but didnt really have any. as for the seal its up to you. i dont think facrory was sealed paint
Yep, the little lady and I have done it many times (removed the hood, that is). A suggestion, would be to get a razor blade or something sharp and outline the hood hinges to the hood. That way when its time to reinstall, you have some handy reference marks to get it back in the right place.
Marking the hinge location before removal is great advise. If your paint is in great condition...mask off the entire edge of the hood before removal & install.

Mike, the hood is not heavy at all, but it is ackward to re & re by yourself. Good idea to mask off the edges prior to work, and to scribe the hinge locations on the hood. Are you just doing a black out of the underside? If that is what you are doing, it is difficult to do it using spray bombs because it dries so fast, and you end up with lines from the overlap. It is better to do with a compressor and a spray gun. You don't have to seal it with anything after.
Be sure to snug the 4 bolts down when reinstalling. Mine weren't tightened enough and it slowly shifted to the right to where it started to rub. I know it's not steel plate and you can't reef on them, but mine had me wondering what was going on there for a bit. Easy enough to adjust, though.
I just removed mine 2 weeks ago. I was amazed how light it was. Just follow the above suggestions, have a helper lend and hand, and it should not be a problem.
I learned this trick from the body shop guy. When you put the hood back on set it against the latches then gently align it where you want it to be. Lay underneath the car with a long extension and you can easily reach the hood bolts from underneath. Tighten one on each side then check it for fit. Then tighten the other two and it's done.

a better way is to drill a hole in the hinge, before you loosen the bolts. when you go to re-install, simply slide the bit back in, and install/tighten the bolts! its already lined up.
