Default T56 question

Has anyone adapted a factory Viper T56 to run behind a SBC?

I was thinking more of junkyard parts in the garage, not buying a shiny new transmission with a scary price tag.

Then no, there is not Mopar to GM adapter.

Why not use a late model Camaro 6 spd? They are a t-56 too. Surely someone makes an adapter. You will hate the skip shift though, and they are kind of clunky.

Hi

TREMEC is making the adaptor for the Viper T56 to GM old bellhousing connection.
Here a pic of a new GM Viper T56 with this adaptpr plate:

May be the input shaft also needs to be replaced, don't know.

If you can use a Mopar clutch disk with a GM flywheel to mount a Mopar NV4500 in a truck, I think it should be possible to do it with the T56.

That adapter plate is exactly what I was looking for - now I just need to find the price.

Viper T56s are stronger than the GM units, and tend to cost less used, for whatever reason.

As I said above... call D&D. You don't have to buy anything from them but you can ask Don some questions. Gunther bought his tranny there but there's no reason why you can't get your questions answered by the T56 experts.

I think the reason for the lower price of the Viper trans is that it only fits a Viper in the Mopar line, and fitting it to a G.M. is not something most people think of right off.

Probably true. Plus, if you can afford the Viper's sticker shock, you probably can just afford a new transmission rather than a used one from a wreck.

Now i just need to find out the price for that plate.

Keep in mind the shaft will have to be changed as the Mopar and GM spliones are different.

You should just be able to do a GM/Mopar hybrid clutch. Use the Mopar disc and the GM pressure plate. I had to do the same thing when I put the Ford T5 in my car.
