Do I need the flat gasket of the heat riser where it mates up to the exhaust flange? All the catalogs I've checked don't have one listed for a '79. When I originally put the exhaust system back to the original configuration, I put one in there. Now it's leaking after a few thousand miles.
I remember a post a few months ago around this topic and can't find it. I thought it mentioned some sort of exhaust gasket paste that I could use for the slight imperfections. The exhaust manifolds are in good shape and the heat riser valve was bought new.
You need the gasket, most all auto parts stores have them..I think the 2 inch gasket was used on all small-blocks from 66 and up. You can use a file to clean up most of the imperfections in the flange. There is a product called "muffler cement" that you can use if you need to. G/L
I'll have to take the old one off and bring it to the local parts guys. They looked it up for a Corvette and it wasn't in there system. I'll have to ask them to match it up. Thanks.
