Default MSD coil mounting ?

I have heard different stories on this. Some say it does not matter others say it does. If it is oil filled it should be mounted straight up? Dry coils it does not matter. Is this correct. I can't seem to find any info on MSD's sight to verify this.

Found the answer my self after digging on the MSD forum. The oil filled ones should not be mounted in the horizontal position. This uncovers some of the windings and they can overheat. The high vibration ones that are epoxy filled are OK to mount anyway you want.
I have to now change mine. The Victor Jr. I put on did not allow it to be mounted vertically. It is horizontal right now and has been for about 200 miles.

Thanks for posting this as i didn't know the liguid ones where not 100% full. May need room for expansion. And i've read the liquid types are the best as something to do will variable resistance with temp. Kinda worried 'bout my Blaster II as it was a very tight fit into the mount and could possibly crack the case with temp expansion. Guess i will find out if i see leaks onto the manifold.
As far as location the factory location was choosen from testing and thermal mapping the eng comp.
Some knowlege is required to choosing a coil to match ones wiring. A coil (stock) with too high current draw/load can burn up without a ballast resistor or ballast ign wire - while others can handle it. Ign box and plug wires are a consideration too. Not much info availible though.

I have a Victor Jr on my '69 and built a bracket out of aluminum to mount it vertically in a position near where the stock coil would have been mounted on a stock manifold.

My blaster 2 is mounted in the stock position at a slight angle. Its been that way for over 5000 miles and 4 years without any problems. Personally I don't think MSD would make their oil filled coils any different than GM's oil filled coils (other that better components) if they are advertising them as replacement. If there was a problem with mounting them in the stock location I would hope they would mention that in their instructions. I may change it just to be safe but for now it stays where it is. This has been brought up many times so you may want to search the forum for other discussions on this topic.
