Default 80 headlight problem

I am looking into buying an 80. The headlights are not working. Are these still the vacuum type or do they have a motor or what!??!?

Also, what is a common cause for them not to work? Is it expensive to fix?

Thanks in advance!

They are vacuum animals on the 80. Typically there is some sort of vacuum leak that will cause them to default in the upright position. The '80 has about a mile and half of vacuum lines under the hood.

The vacuum hose kits aren't that expensive and they come with a diagram.

Here's a link to the vacuum troubleshooting guide @ Corvette 101. Should give you an idea of what you're looking at. It could just be some hoses, or you might have to replace acutators or relays or the can...

Rick I wouldn't let that problem stop you from buying the car if everything else checks out.

I think a large percent of the time, it is the vacuum RELAYS that go bad.

I haven't been back to RI since last Xmas. My son now drives up to URI so I don't have to make the trips anymore. I'd like to get to that show you guys have every summer, hopefully next year

Is this your first C3?

I bought my 73 w/ a headlight problem, was the first thing I had to work on. My was an accumulator leak. I had replaced the headlight actuators that I thought might have been bad, so if yours turns out to be actuators send me a PM and I can work you a deal for them. Good luck.
