I have new motor with aluminum heads and a new Aluminum radiator. Do I go with the green coolant or the newer Dex Cool extended orange coolant? I have heard the new coolant is more corrosive than the old coolant, but the new coolant is suppose to be better with aluminum? Which one will protect against corrosion better?
well, now I see the others have gone to a long life formula now so I guess I dont know
I have heard of head gasket problems with the red coolant, besides, whose gonna leave it in more than a couple of years anyway?
Just make sure you reduce it with distilled water rather than tap water.
Used to be there was only one chem plant producing it.....likely still that way....prestone,zerex,o'reileys,wallmart ''''all the same. You can also get it pre-deluted .
Yeah, that helps all right. It shows another example of 'they should not mess with something that works'. Now a simple cheap product and maintenance procedure can end up costing hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Does anybody really think the auto manufactors change anything to make their product last longer? How many cars do you think this little change will sell over time?
I want some plain old Prestone to put in my new motor. It served me well for____ years. Who knows whats in that yellow jug now.
Couldn't open the above link, but what you need to keep in mind is getting a coolant that is compatible with aluminum components. I have seen aluminum heads/intakes come through the shop that I had to weld up water jackets on and then resurface because the were ate up from either wrong antifreeze or not running any antifreeze.
