Default Tire clearance

Is it common to have to trim the fender of a 1977 to fit 255/60R15 BFGoodrich Radial TA to allow for clearance? I just got new rally wheels with the above mentioned tire and my tires rub slightly on the rear lower front fender when I turn the wheel. Is this typical and has anyone else had this problem?

I guess they are all slightly different.but, I have 255/60/15 on front and 275/60/15 on rear mounted on orig 8 inch alum wheels and have no problem.. BFG TA's

However, when I spin the rubber off the rear I think I'll put the fronts on back and replace them with 235's on front.

I run 245/60/15's on the front with no problems and 255/60/15's on the rear.........my car is a 77 also. They look great and no clearance issues.

Mine rubs on the left with 255s, and the right has plenty of room...

What brand do you have that are 245s, I am looking to replace my older Goodyears (245s) but the new GT II only comes in 255 or 235.

Yup, had the same issues with my 77, I took the easier route and returned the 255-60-15 fronts and went for some 225-70-15. Looks better now in my opinion, narrow in front and fat in back. No issues with 255-60-15 in back. Brand same, BFGoodrich Radial T/A.

Cooper Tires has a house brand.........Cyclone is what I am running.

I know T/A's come in 245 and Dunlop also makes 'em. There are 245 in yokahama and Mastercraft and Kumho as well...........

Some 1978 and 1979 cars had the fenders trimmed when they came from the factrory, just looked at a friend's '78 - they did not do a very clean job, looks like a 4" angle grinder massage.... ... and yes, that car is all original, bubba hasn't touched it....
