Default Is there a trick ???

Hi,

I have been trying for an hour to push a new speedo cable thru the firewall gromet on my 78. I am about read to take an exacto knife and slice the groment...but before I start destroying I'd like to know if there is a known way to push that dang thru?

Thanks for the help

I had that same problem, but with a mechanical tach cable.

Took some light grease and very sparingly coated the inside surfaces of the gromet. Finally got it pushed through.

If that doesn't work, try using "cuss words".

I know what you mean... I saved myself that hour and split the grommit. Can't tell once it's pushed back in.

The easy way to do the grommets is pop them out. Slide them on the cable then put the cable in the hole and slip the grommet back into place.

Well...

I greased and lubed with every thing slippery I could find with no luck. I made a feeble attempt at removing the grommet and that seem like it was going to be more difficult than pushing the cable through.

SO

I cut two slits in the grommet, greased it, pushed it and wiggled it until I finally got it in.....man did it feel goood !!!

Thanks for the help
