Hearing an increasingly louder grinding/rattle sound from underneath the car whenever I pull slowly forward or reverse. Feels like car "slips" or shifts sideways too, but that could be my imagination. Rear end, u-joints etc is all original (46000 miles 71 Muncie). I redid the front end last fall myself so I guess I could have muffed something up there but it really sounds and feels like it is coming from the rear.
Last weekend I jacked up rear end. Both rear tires have no movement when shaken laterally but the drivers side did have a noticeable but not severe wobble when shaken from top and bottom. I was planning to have the trailing arms redone this winter.
Car tracks staight and no shimmy or vibration when driving at 65+.
What is the best/easiest way to check the u-joints. I am going to put the rear up on jackstands again tomorrow. Anything else I should check
that might make a noise like that?
Could be the posi. Would change the differential lube. When refilling make sure you put in the additive. After changing go to a parking lot do a few figure 8's. May fix your problem.
