I just replaced the directional switch in the non t/t steering column of my 72. Wasn't cancelling and horn not working. Bought a switch from Last Detail.
1. Found the plug did not fit into my original factory wiring, just slightly different on the ends.
2. Wiring was shorter than the original. I could not get it to snap into the clips on the steering column.
I even bought another switch from GM and found the same 2 problems. Solution to item 1 was I removed the old plug end and inserted the wires from the new switch to my pld plug end. Only thing I could do for Item 2 was to tywrap the plug aroudn the column so it would not hang down.
Anyone else run into these problems when replacing the directional switch harness?

The first switch I bought for my 76 had the same connector issues that you describe. I switched the leads into the old plastic guide and it worked fine electrically. I disassembled the steering column to put it in and found that it had the wrong connection for the turn signal handle. A new one from Corvette Central had the correct plastic connector and threaded part for the handle. That was the last time I ordered parts like this from Advance.
