Default What can you attach to the engine....

I am getting close to being able to install the engine and transmission back in (together). I have the hood, radiator and condensor (pretty much everything) out of the car as well.
My question is : what accessories can I go ahead and attach to the engine before installing it? (like starter, water pump, fuel pump etc..)Obviously there is a point where you become cramped for room when isntalling if there is too much attached. What things would you go ahead and install and which things would you leave off?

I prefer as little as possible, I wouldn't install the fuel pump or water pump either, both are easy enough to install afterwards. the more you have on it the more chance you have something will bang into something else.

Because I don't have a lift , I was hoping to install as much as possible because it would be easier now vs. having to install of this later.
Anyone else?

Anything in the way or that could be damaged should be left off.
Distributor, carb, alt, fuel pump. Everything else can go on and in.

if your'e putting the engine and trans in as one piece, there's no reason you can't hang the starter on it...

hang the starter on it even if you're not installing it w/ a trans since you'll be mounting the converter/flexplate or pressure plate/flywheel on the engine anyway, shimming the starter for proper engagement with the engine outside the car is so much easier..you'll actually be able to see what you're doing an how the 2 mesh.

Had my engine in and out three times to get it right... (long story)...
But I've been bolting the hooker headers on before the starter. It makes getting to the right rear header bolt easier. This is with a 69BB though. Maybe a 79 is easier to get the headers on with the starter installed first?

No headers here- just stock manifolds- In looking at my old pics I removed it with the exhaust man., intake man., water pump, air pump and fuel pump on. I removed the starter beforehand.
Anyone have objections to installing these prior to installing the block?

I know what you mean about having to do as little later as possible afterwards. I just did my 80 with the adjustable tilting setup on a chainfall, I had everything on except the fan, alt & PS type accessories, Just need to be real carefull of the Dist. hitting the firewall. I had my son to help and had no issues, just go easy. Good Luck....
